The Floor Store Journey
In 1981, The Floor Store opened its doors with the philosophy of providing each customer with professional service. The Floor Store is owned and operated by brothers Jim Moran and Bob Moran and employs their children as well as many individuals from the surrounding community.
The Floor Store prides itself on providing its customers with quality flooring, friendly customer service, and talented installers. The Floor Store focuses on providing flooring and superior customer service to customers throughout Windsor-Essex County.
Humble Beginnings
Incorporating his vast knowledge of the flooring business with the philosophy of treating customers with courtesy and respect, Jim Moran founded The Floor Store in the early 1980s with Rick Clouthier. Despite The Floor Store opening its doors during the infamous recession of the 1980s, Jim Moran and Rick Clouthier stayed true to their business model and managed to develop a flourishing flooring business.
Growth and Movement
Continuous growth during the early days of operation of The Floor Store resulted in the need for a larger location to accommodate a greater selection and additional inventory. The Floor Store moved from its initial 2,400 sq. ft. location at the corner of Westminister and Tecumseh Road to the current location at 6200 Tecumseh Rd. E.
Transition to Family Owned and Operated
In 1989, The Floor Store welcomed Jim Moran’s brother Bob Moran as a partner of the business. Thus, a family-owned and operated flooring business was born. Jim and Bob Moran maintained the vision that each customer be treated with respect and that customer service be superior to all competitors in the industry.
“Our growth over the years is the result of treating each customer who walks through our doors as if they are family,” says Jim. “And this has resulted in continued, repeat business and referrals from our satisfied customers!”

Dedicated Flooring Centre
As a dedicated flooring centre, The Floor Store is one of the largest in-stock flooring dealers in Windsor-Essex County. In addition to a full range of in-stock carpeting, The Floor Store also maintains an extensive inventory of ceramic tile, no wax vinyl and hardwood flooring.
“Customers like to see what they are buying,” says sales associate Mike Moran. “Our large buying power allows us to pass on savings to our customers, and they really appreciate that.”
In addition to the vast selection of products and the benefits of knowledgeable sales associates, The Floor Store provides its customers with competent and talented installation crews. The employees of The Floor Store continually update their knowledge of new products and techniques by attending seminars which allows them to provide even better service to their customers. Long-time employee and sales manager David Giordimaina believes the expertise of The Floor Store installation team allows the sales associates to pass on helpful tips to the do-it-yourself customer.
